ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How does character development help to accelerate the plot in a text?

TASK: Identify main characters in text, begin an ongoing analysis of character development, trace plot development

Students research the following:  plot structure, characterization, and the types of characters (protagonist, antagonist, dynamic, round, flat, static, etc.)

§ Students named a favorite or well-known character(s) from a novel, television show, or film. They identified these characters as protagonist, antagonist, static, flat, round, or dynamic. Discuss the qualities that a great character possesses.

§ Required students to begin a Character Analysis Chart for the novel that will track the main characters’ traits, motivations, obstacles, and progression throughout the novel.
